I have been extremely MIA the past few months, and I promise you I have a very good reason! Not writing has certainly been a disappointment on my end, having set personal goals to continue writing at least one post per week, regardless of what I had going on in either my professional or personal life. Well, sometimes life does in fact get in the way, and that is only going to get worse in the coming months and years, so I better get ready for the ride!
I am very excited to finally be able to announce that my husband and I are expecting our first baby this September! I have made it through the first trimester and am very happy to be safely in my fourth month of pregnancy. We are so incredibly elated and eager to start this next chapter of our lives.
The reason for my absence in blogging regularly is all of the super fun symptoms that the first tri brings. Man oh man…. The nausea and fatigue were killers. After fighting the urge to purge all day at work, and struggling to stay awake all afternoon while being unable to drink the copious amounts of coffee my poor brain was accustomed to, I got home and crashed. Not wanting to do anything. Absolutely nothing. Reading was laughable as I would reread the same page over and over again, nodding off at some point about halfway through. Writing actually took effort on some level. Watching an evening show with my husband, HA! I was lucky to stay away long enough to gingerly attempt some dinner.
But more about that in my “first trimester” blog post. All that to say, I was exhausted and sick for about two months straight. Now that I’m past that phase, my energy levels are back where they need to be, I can actually focus on my writing (for the time being at least!) and am looking forward to getting back in my regular writing grove until motherhood sucks the majority of my attention for the latter part of this year.
With regards to blogging, I never thought I would be one to ever do a “parenting” blog, but I do recognize that this life changing experience will certainly provide some content for writing. That may be in the form of random musings about pregnancy and child-rearing, recipes geared towards little ones, or stories and anecdotes that pop up as I embark on this new journey. That being said, I have created a “Parenting” page and as this new chapter of my life starts to unfold, I’ll add sub-pages to it and will add as the mommy-writing muse calls me to do so.
I still fully plan on continue to write my normal poetry, flash fiction, recipes, and other eclectic pieces, with the goal of this still making up the bulk of my writing. But realistically, I know that my writing is bound to change in some capacity and I wanted an outlet to allow myself to bring that into my blog, without my blog being taken over by rants about sleep schedules and reviews about baby products.
So far, pregnancy is as far as I’ve gotten (obviously), and is thus the only sub-page I’ve created so far. I hope you enjoy these newly themed blog posts in addition to my usual writing! I’m excited to share the ups and downs of this journey with you and welcome any advice and tips fellow blogging parents have! 🙂
