Summertime Adventures!

Yesterday’s poem, Smells and Sounds of Summer, made me ache for that idyllic summer day. Having fun out of doors with my sweet pup, lazy afternoons swimming and reading at the river, basking in the afternoon sun until my skin threatens to bubble.

Days turn into weekends, into weeks, and long vacations. I’m eagerly planning 2 upcoming summer trips and can’t wait to escape the heavy heat of the city, completely disconnecting, unplugging, and recharging.

Next week we will be departing to California once again for my husband’s niece’s high school graduation. I cannot believe she is graduating!!! Makes me feel so old… While this trip won’t boast any long nature hikes or lake swims, 3 days of amazing family time is something I am certainly looking forward to.

The 4th of July we are taking a 5 day weekend to go backpacking in the gorgeous Cascade mountain range in Oregon. We have a secret spot on a stunning glacier melt lake that has been calling to me all winter. I can’t wait to hang up my hammock, swim, read, swim again, read again, grill some fresh lake trout, drink some wine by the fire, and repeat again and again for 4 glorious days.

At our favorite spot over the 4th of July weekend last year! The countdown has begun!

What are your summer plans? Have any fantastic vacations coming up? Any projects you are working on in your spare time?

Have a fabulous weekend!! πŸ™‚

  1. I’ve not had a vacation for years, but am lucky enough to live on the edge of a National Park in a picturesque seaside resort, so don’t really feel a great desire to beat the crush getting to places, which is how travelling has become in the UK. Although, if I could teleport somewhere like your picturesque Oregon mountain range, I might be tempted!

  2. I love the Cascades! Sounds lovely! We’ve vacationed a good bit already for the year, but are currently trying to figure out if we can sneak in a few long weekend trips in the next few months. I’m hoping it involves much of the same of what you’re describing here: outdoors and relaxing!

  3. I just came back from a very relaxing vacation. 10 days in the south of France πŸ™‚
If all goes well in August there will be another short vacation, but for now, back into city life, but that also means back to writing πŸ™‚

  4. Hiking in the Cascades sounds wonderful. Enjoy! (and take pictures to share πŸ™‚ )
Being vegetable farmers we’re not able to leave the farm much during the summer, but we do have a camping weekend at a festival planned for next month. Looking forward to it. πŸ™‚
