False Filled Happiness

Day 21 – “U” Ultimatum

The day she moved
back in, I knew it
was over.
Years
of happy memories
trump the months
of soiled ones.

False happiness
filled our time,
knowing it
could end –
wasn’t mine.

Wanted us both.
Piercing pain of
being second,
less,
the back-burner
option.

Stay. Pick me.

Failed to decide,
not fair to either.
I chose.

One last time,
he begged.
Driving away, rain
on asphalt aroma
clung to tear tracks.

Free.
