Sunlight and Rum

Day 18 – “R” Rum and Coke

After one month you ask.
Jaw clenches,
trying.
I should know better
I say yes.

Rum and coke.
Another. Another.
Split nachos,
jalapeños burn.
Courage cools.

Leaving together.
Black spike twists,
hands catch my fall.
Grey shards of gravel,
scarlet covered palms.
You help me clean them,
kiss them.

Blonde hair. Raven hair.
Sunlight streams in
between beige blinds.
Warms sticky bodies.

Years later I wake
next to you.
The smell of rum
still makes me sick.
